Recently, the US Coast Guard has created a rule to ban anyone from coming within 65 feet of the oil containment booms. Without Coast guard approval, of course. They originally tried to make the exclusion zone 300 feet. They claim that this is done to ensure the safety of the public. However, it is currently preventing reporters and members of the media from reporting the conditions down in the Gulf.

This is thoroughly disgusting. It was bad enough that we went to war with Iraq almost solely to spur the defense industry. It is bad enough that we had a vice-president who was head of this company.

British Petroleum (BP) says it’s manoeuvred a cap into position in its latest attempt to plug the undersea well that’s spewing oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Company executives say it will take up to 24 hours before they know whether it’s worked. The environmental disaster began more than six weeks ago, when a BP-operated offshore rig sunk following an explosion.
