It is obvious to many people that our nation is undergoing a change and we are trying to do so at a time of unparalleled debt. This can be a tricky thing to do. How can one manage the budget, fight multiple wars and have socially progressive programs? This seems like a recipe for disaster, bankruptcy and possibly far worse.

The current laws prohibiting the use of marijuana creates criminals out of law abiding citizens and the laws need to be changed. It is clear that the majority of Americans support this change and it is time for prohibition to end.  Not only is Marijuana prohibition costly, but it is also morally objectionable. Government agents close down small businesses, raid family farms, arrest non-violent “criminals” and perpetuate a myth of dangers associated with Marijuana.

On my way down to the beach this morning on my morning jog, and then on my way back up afterwards I witnessed a group of police officers busting a grow house. There were garbage bags full of marijuana and boxes full of lights and power converters sitting on the sidewalk next to a man cuffed, leaning against his car. A police officer was inches from his face interrogating him. His possessions tossed haphazardly into a 7 foot pile in his garage.

Cannabis (marijuana) is a Schedule 1 drug. US federal law prohibits use of cannabis and is illegal even if prescribed by a physician. This classification also includes methamphetamines and many other potent substances. Commonly consumed by smoking, people use cannabis in benign social settings that have many similarities to the consumption of alcohol.
