Crews in the Gulf of Mexico began to burn parts of an oil slick from last week’s rig explosion that is now threatening the coastline. Judy Woodruff talks to two experts about the challenges of stopping the leak and getting rid of the oil spill.

Pawlenty asked: “Why do you hate the poor?”

This was too good to pass up, I read this and just thought I had to share. The Governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty, has a radio show and apparently things got a little out of control. Most of this backlash is due to Pawlenty’s attempts to block funding for education, unemployment benefits and a number of other worthwhile and necessary programs.  Why Minnesotans voted for this guy I will never know, but he has done a lot of damage to this great state. Just look at our national rankings.

Creature called Healthcare reform

It has been about a week since my last posting, thank you all for you patience. There has been quite a lot going on in the world and in politics. Of course there is the earthquake in Chile that we are all paying close attention too. We also have the Health care bill resurgence that has taken place over the past couple of weeks.

‘T-Pa’, GOP Answer Man

“T-Pa” as President? You better believe it! The one-man veto machine (commonly referred to as Governor Pawlenty) might be taking his show on the road. He has recently announced his intentions to not run for a third term as Governor of Minnesota. This means that he has something else up his sleeve because it would be very odd for Pawlenty, at age 48, to end his political career.

Where Has My Education Done Gone?

Minnesota has often been known as a leader in many facets of the public sector. We provide top-notch healthcare (used to) and have historically ranked among the top States in many education statistics. This would be great if the United States had an education system that was comparable to other industrialized countries.

The Great Compromise

Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of health care reform. The constant realignment of positions, back and forth on legislation and overall amateurish atmosphere of this process has been absurd. But, somehow, our Democratic legislators have managed to keep the possibility of reform alive by compromising on almost every issue they claimed was steadfast.

Money Bomb Toward Freedom!

Texas Rep. Ron Paul is known as being a staunch Republican-Libertarian hybrid that has incredible disdain towards the federal government. He has also produced a few sons, one of which has decided to run for the Senate in Kentucky.

Rand Paul is an ophthalmologist (eye doctor) and founder of Kentucky Taxpayers United, an anti-taxation organization. He has also spent considerable amounts of time crusading for his father, Ron, on his numerous Presidential campaigns.

Congressman Ron Paul had this to say regarding his sons campaign:

Cheney still a big fan of torture

Attorney General Eric Holder has recently launched an investigation into the CIA’s use of water-boarding and other methods of torturing people. In a very surprising and daring move the GOP’s conduit of complaining, Dick Cheney, is taking offense to this. What a shocker.

Can’t Trust the Government

People should always retain a watchful eye on the government. We have good reason to distrust them; we have been lied to, cheated and deliberately led into false wars. Vietnam, Iraq and Spain/Cuba come to mind. The Bush administration wire-tapped US citizens, tortured people all over the world and lied to the American public to lead us into a war for reasons not yet known.

So with that being said, here is the direct quote about what you, as a concerned US citizen should do if you face misinformation about health insurance reform.

Universal Health Care: Part I

The idea of universal health care in the United States has remained the figurative 800 pound gorilla in the room.  In the our history there has never been a time that needs universal health care legislation more than we do currently.  Our country needs it and we need it now!

Today we are faced with a challenge unique to the United States.  We have been led to believe that our private system is the way to go, but now it is failing.  We spend more money, in terms of per capita and in total terms, than any other nation of the planet, but yet we have almost 50 million uninsured.

Sparing Change

Change is inevitable. Many people choose to live purposefully ignoring this fact. One can choose to live trying to avoid change, but this will prove to be a waste. As we all meander through these times striving to maintain a balance and stability we must realize that this change, even if it is sudden and unnerving, is inevitable.

Wayward Transparency

The thought of Presidential failure has been a common reoccurrence throughout my life. I have never seen a half-way decent president. I was too young to remember Reagan and the oft-reported “Greatness” and all I remember about Bush Sr. is that he was portrayed as an out-of-touch kook on MTV. Meanwhile, Tricky Dick was dishing out smooth jazz sax to young crowds and was thoroughly impressive. That is, until he decided that Free Trade on steroids is a great idea and he used the Oval Office for many other activities as well.
