In a recent poll of 1,000 adults conducted by Star Tribune only 30% of Minnesotans supported a White House run for Republican governor Tim Pawlenty. The question that garnered a whopping 30% of support was, “Would you like to see Tim Pawlenty run for president in 2012, or not?”
In response to that question, 30% of all respondents said “yes,” 55% said “no,” and 15% either didn’t have an opinion or refused to answer.
53% of the people who identified themselves as Republican said “yes,” 33% said “no,” and 14% either didn’t have an opinion or refused to answer.
11% of the people who identified themselves as Democrat said “yes,” 79% said “no,” and 10% either didn’t have an opinion or refused to answer.
34% of the people who identified themselves as Independents said “yes,” 51% said “no,” and 14% either didn’t have an opinion or refused to answer.
Other questions the poll asked were:
“Do you approve or disapprove of the way Tim Pawlenty is handling his job as governor?” 49% of all respondents “approve,” 38% “disapprove,” and 13% either didn’t have an opinion or refused to answer.
“If Tim Pawlenty is the Republican Party’s candidate for president in 2010, is there a good chance, some chance, or no chance that you would vote for him?” 25% of all respondents said “good chance,” 25% said “some chance,” 43% said “no chance” and 7% said that they didn’t have an opinion or refused to answer.
So, what does any of this mean? Not a whole lot as far as I am concerned. Pawlenty is going to run and most likely will defeat Palin, Huckabee and Romney for the nomination.
He is the one candidate with the least amount of dirt and he has the support from the fiscally conservative base. If he does not get the nomination this time around it is most likely because the Republicans are saving him for when Obama steps down as President after his second term. But, that is if Obama is able to make it that long. Only time will tell.
