This is the first article in a new section of IronBar Fitness. We will be starting a section of reviews of different events, supplements, workouts, etc. Basically anything to do with the human body, performance, powerlifting, or anything our members feel is note worthy. I chose this first article as an Exhibit I was to recently at the Mall of America. The review won’t be to long but will get across the main point.
“This Exhibition–which features actual human specimens–allows people of all ages access to sights and knowledge normally reserved only for medical professionals. Take the opportunity to peer inside yourself, to better understand how your elaborate and fascinating body works, and how you can become a more informed participant in your own health care.” -Bodies Website (http://www.bodiestheexhibition.com/)
I can wrap my experience up at the exhibit in one word, well I guess sitting here about 10 raced through my mind but outstanding seems to cover them all. At first I though the tickets were a bit pricey at around $22 for an adult and $5 for this little phone thing you carry around it was $49 for both my brother and I. Once inside you will find it was worth every penny. The first thing that is staring you in the face is a fully persevered person, showing every muscles fiber in his body. The little phone thing is a device you punch the number on the display your looking at and it provides you with all sorts of information about the display, well worth the extra $5.
The first room you walk into goes over the basic bone structure of the human body. Here you will learn about all the different bones in your arms, legs and even every little bone in the skull, I for one did not realize how many bones you had in your skull. Walking into the second room, and one of my most fascinating rooms based on my sport of choice was the muscle exhibit. Teaching you everything from how your tendons work to showing you the human body with basically the skin removed so you can see every muscle fiber the body has.(Keep in mind these are real bodies) This really gives you a new prospective about how to train your body when you see how it is all put together.
Ever wondered how your brain works? Well here at the exhibit they still can’t tell you, why because we simply don’t know. But they do teach you that we also still don’t know why we yawn, and its not because the brain needs oxygen. Enclosed in glass cases are real human brains, whole brains, dissected brains, all the different parts that make it do what it does. It also somehow managed to remove the entire central nervous system from the human body and put it on display.
Other sections include the cardio system, the lungs and respiratory system(which will make you want to quit smoking), for lack of better terms a development section where you can see exactly what a embryo looks like from concealment all the way to birth.(Once again these are real babies and their is a warning before you go in if you are at all opposed to that kind of stuff).
There is obviously a ton more to see at the exhibit, if you have the chance to go, do not pass it up. Check out the website and see if its coming to your area.
