Some idiot on Facebook created a poll that is currently being investigated, the question was asked. “Should Obama be killed?” 730 people responded to this poll, with possible answers of “yes,” “maybe,” “if he cuts my health care” and “no.”
I have not been able to find the poll data that has the responses, but I would imagine it is interesting. I would also imagine that the creator of this Facebook poll is looking to hire a good attorney.
Currently, the United States Secret Service (USSS) is responsible for investigating this poll, the creator of the poll and they have also removed it from Facebook. Either the USSS is overly concerned about a stupid Facebook poll or they are trying to intimidate someone who is speaking out against Obama. Either way this doesn’t bode well for anyone involved.
We must remember that the creator of the poll did not commit a crime by doing this. It is clear that asking whether or not a person should be killed is not against US law. In fact, it should be encouraged. This poll is stupid, unprofessional and does not do any good.
However, it is no different then the thousands of people who wanted to kill Bush, who defamed him as Hitler or who openly talked about hoping he would die. This talk didn’t go us any good then and it isn’t helping now. We voted for Obama for change that we need. Some things should not change; our civil liberties are included in that group.
The President could be Bush wanting to wiretap all of us or Obama wanting to use the USSS to infringe on people’s rights. We have the freedom of speech and we do need to support it. We are all talking about change, but yet we refuse to embrace any positive change and in the end, the more we talk about change the more things stay the same.
