Fanatical and Ignorant

Fanatical and Ignorant

The once great MLB pitcher Curt Schilling has been known for his off the cuff remarks and fanatical and ignorant adherence to Republicanism. Schilling has made a number of remarks that can only lead me to believe he does not know what the Republican Party stands for.

Sure, he says things like this, referring to GOP Senate Nominee Scott Brown:

“He’s for smaller government, stopping the concentration of power in one political party, a strong military and vigorous homeland defense, as well as — and probably most appropriate and meaningful right now — giving all Americans health care, but not by creating a new government insurance program”

The thing is that I like Curt Schilling as a baseball player. He was fun to watch and would dominate games. He was fun to watch and helped Arizona and Boston to championships. Sure, many people believe that there is a better then 50% chance he did steroids, same with Randy Johnson. Unless you are someone who believes that athletes are like wine and get better with age.

But, nevertheless, I have some words of advice for Mr. Schilling.

Ok, Curt, if you want to do battle in the Political arena you better be prepared or else you will look like Sarah Palin (who can’t name a founding father or a freaking magazine/news paper).

So, let me see if I can help you out a bit, you seem confused.

Let us take a closer look at what the Republican Party has been like for the past 8 years or so and why America has decided to take a different direction.

We endured 8 years of the Bush presidency which saw the beginning of two wars, the overthrow of multiple world leaders; even though Bush said he was against Nation Building.

We saw an erosion of rights as Americans and we saw citizens wiretapped. We saw citizens and foreign nationals tortured, an increase in terrorism abroad, a decrease in respect for Americans and above all else we saw a beginning of a dictatorship.

We are very fortunate that Bush and his cronies did decide to leave office without the courts or military having to get involved. For awhile it looked like they were here for good. Especially after Bush’s famed dictatorship comment, “If this were a dictatorship, it’d be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I’m the dictator.” –Washington, D.C., Dec. 19, 2000 (Listen to audio clip)

Go here for the top 50 dumb Bush quotes, I know, they only have 50, I would have thought it would have been at least triple digits.

So, why did the American people elect Obama?

We want someone who uses logic and reasoning. We do not want a zealot or a cowboy as a president. We want bipartisanship, which we have gotten more so with Obama then with Bush. We endured the first 4 years of Bush as a horrible example of what a one-party state can do to a country.

Now we have a bi-partisan coalition that CAN work together if the extreme rightwing of the GOP WANTED to work with this president. They have proven that they do not want to get anything done because it will make Obama look bad, increasing their chances for political success in the future. And these comments by Schilling are no different. They

But, Curt, if you truly want a government that has a strong military and homeland defense, then look no further! The Obama administration has done an amazing job reforming a broken system, strengthening our military and securing our homeland. It is true that much work has to be done and we can always improve. But we are better off today then when we were under Bush; that is a fact.

Would you rather be lead by ignorance and fear or logic and reason?

Now, here is the statement that made me cringe just a little. You said that Scott Brown, along with the GOP is for “giving all Americans health care, but not by creating a new government insurance program.” Well, I have something to tell you that may shock you.

Republicans are against health care reform that would have given the US universal care, without a government option. A Co-op idea was proposed and was not taken seriously by the GOP side; in fact they continued their propaganda saying that the Co-op’s would hurt the system.  If you don’t believe me, you can also take a look at our poll on the main page of our site.

It asks the question, “Do you support Universal Healthcare?” 49% of the respondents replied ‘no.’

Universal health care means that every single person has health coverage. It does not mean that it is government run, co-op, private care or any of that. Just that everyone has health care. We have 49% of the poll respondents who are against health care for everyone.

Even if Politablog would agree to front the bill, free of charge to everyone else, with zero stipulations; these people would remain against Universal care. I am not sure why they do not want everyone in the USA to have health coverage, but they don’t. It seems as if we live in a world where many people just expect and desire to see people go without. Go without food, clothing, shelter and healthcare.

Now, you may say, “David, that question is misleading.”

Well, I understand your point. But, I would also add that this poll question is about as straight forward as possible. One must know what Universal care is before they start spewing vile from their mouths about it. Most of what we hear today from the GOP side is this unintelligible vile.

It is true Curt that you are allowed to say whatever you want. In fact, I bet people will even go to your blog, read what you have to say and maybe even comment on it. But they do not comment because they love your mind or your thoughts. It is because they are fond of your past glory, not appreciative of your semi-political rants.

Curt Schilling continues his zest for politics by adding, “that’s exactly what I’ve come to expect from politicians. So many are so far out of touch with their constituents it’s laughable and pathetic”

Really? That is funny, I was about to same the same thing about once-relevant celebrities.

From CNN Political Editor Mark Preston:

Former Red Sox ace Curt Schilling blasted Martha Coakley Saturday after the Massachusetts Democratic Senate hopeful told a Boston radio talk show host that Schilling, a Republican, is a Yankees fan.

This is a serious charge in “Red Sox Nation”: Schilling is a part of baseball lore as the pitcher who battled through pain with a bloody ankle in 2004 to defeat the Yankees in Game Six of the American League Championship Series.

“I’ve been called a LOT of things,” Schilling wrote on his blog at 1:06 a.m. ET. “But never, and I mean never, could anyone ever make the mistake of calling me a Yankee fan. Well, check that, if you didn’t know what the hell is going on in your own state maybe you could….”

Schilling, who considered running for the Senate seat, is backing GOP nominee Scott Brown in Tuesday’s special election to replace the late Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Coakley quickly recanted her assertion after host Dan Rea challenged her on the statement in the Friday interview. A campaign spokesman told CNN that Coakley simply failed to deliver on the joke.

“Curt Schilling has been involved in a lot of strike outs over time,” the spokesman said. “I guess Martha whiffed on that joke.”
