Emmer smash! Emmer mad! Grrrr! Emmer unable to form complex human emotions. Emmer Sad.

Oh Tommy boy, you seem to miss the mark on so many issues. This Target donation gaffe is just the latest in a long run of absurdities.

Emmer had this to say to MN public Radio:

“We have to get over this personal issue. We have to start talking about who has the positive vision for the future of the state of Minnesota. The personal emotions, that’s human, and I understand it but at some point we have to peel back the emotions and we got to start asking each other is what we’re doing in the state now working? Are we going to leave something more than debt to our kids and their kids?”

He made a similar statement to the Pioneer Press:

“The sad part to me is, I thought we were supposed to be able to exercise our rights of free speech. We’re supposed to celebrate the fact that we have different perspectives. And it doesn’t seem like that’s what this is about. This seems to be more personal and we’ve got to get over that.”

Well, as most of you assume, I disagree with his statements for a few reasons.

  1. We do not have to get over this personal issue. Personal issues are what make politics debatable.
  2. We should talk about positive visions for Minnesota, something that Emmer knows nothing about.
  3. We do need to figure out what is working in MN and what isn’t. Here is a clue, anything that Pawlenty touched is not working. Just take a look at some of the basic state rankings in education, healthcare or employment. All gone downhill. Thanks T-paw!
  4. I believe a boycott of a corporation is an exercise of Freedom of Speech. If Target, Best Buy and Regis corps want to enter the world of Politics, they have to be prepared for a backlash when they come out AGAINST equal rights for gay individuals.

This is a very personal issue for many people. Just like the Civil Rights movement was personal for many people.  Can you imagine a political leader in the 1960’s coming out and telling people to get over this? To put it aside that they are not equal in the eyes of the law?

I think Emmer has a few “Personal Issues” of his own to overcome.
