In a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation telephone poll of 1,038 American adults, Sarah Palin got a less then favorable result. 71% of respondents said that Palin is not qualified to be President and a shockingly high amount of people, 29%, said that she actually would be qualified to be President.
The extremely intelligent members of the Republican Party show their partisanship with 52% saying Palin is qualified to be president and 47% saying she is not qualified. The poll also shows that 51% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Palin. I was expecting it would be more like 90%, but oh well.
In a question for Republicans, 32% said they would support Mike Huckabee for the GOP nomination; while, 25% would support Palin, 21% for Mitt Romney and a lowly 5% for our favorite Governor, Minnesota’s own Tim Pawlenty. It seems that Huckabee’s show on Fox News and Palin always running her mouth has really paid off for them.
CNN Polling Director Keating Holland had this to add about Palin, “But her biggest Achilles heel is the number who think she is not qualified to be President. Those numbers are similar to what Dan Quayle got in 1993, when only 23 percent thought he was ready for the White House.”
For Pawlenty it is clear that his biggest hurdle will be name recognition. Many of the polls respondents had no opinion about Pawlenty whatsoever. 15% of Americans think favorably about him, 13% do not and 72% have no opinion.
It seems that for now Huckabee should enjoy his spot in the limelight, because it will not last. These polls are rarely accurate this far away from election time and it is clear that a lot will change from now until then. We still have Pawlenty’s maneuvering to witness and Palin’s continuation of her polarizing behavior. These things could have a drastic effect on the GOP nomination.
Stay tuned.
