Interracial Couple Denied

Interracial Couple Denied

Surprisingly, the state that allows creationism to be taught in its science classrooms is also the one that has a Judge denying interracial couples the right to marry.

With sulfur radiating from his soul, Judge Keith Bardwell proudly proclaimed, “I’m not a racist. I just don’t believe in mixing the races that way, I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else.” Really? You have piles and piles of black friends? That is how you decide to defend yourself? Good job judge, I can see you take your duty as an Officer of the Court very seriously.

In case you haven’t yet heard about this, let me refresh you quickly. A judge in Louisiana has refused to marry an interracial couple because he feared that their children would not be accepted.

This Judge must not be too familiar with the law. In 1967 a little group called the Supreme Court of the United States of America came together and said that bigots like Judge Bardwell are not only idiots, but they are also operating illegally.

In Loving v. Virginia, Chief Justice Earl Warren delivered the opinion of the court:

Marriage is one of the “basic civil rights of man,” fundamental to our very existence and survival. To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State’s citizens of liberty without due process of law. The Fourteenth Amendment requires that the freedom of choice to marry not be restricted by invidious racial discriminations. Under our Constitution, the freedom to marry, or not marry, a person of another race resides with the individual and cannot be infringed by the State.

Okay, so we know that Judge Bardwell does not uphold the law. But, in my utter amazement he continues to defy his contract with society, “It’s kind of hard to apologize for something that you really and truly feel down in your heart you haven’t done wrong.” Michael Vick apologized when he didn’t mean it, why can’t you? Just resign and apologize and leave us all alone. That would be best.

The wing-nut judge continued to say, “I try to treat everyone equally.” Apparently the Republican Governor of your state thinks a bit differently, Judge Bardwell. “This is a clear violation of constitutional rights and federal and state law. … disciplinary action should be taken immediately — including the revoking of his license.” Bobby Jindal said and I couldn’t agree more.

Judge Keith Bardwell as a Judge it is your sworn duty to obey the law. The law says that you have to marry these people if they want to get married. You failed to obey this law and now you should resign. What do you really think about this matter Judge Bardwell? “I’ve been a justice of the peace for 34 years and I don’t think I’ve mistreated anybody. I’ve made some mistakes, but you have too. I didn’t tell this couple they couldn’t get married. I just told them I wouldn’t do it.” Resign Judge Bardwell, you are a dying breed of bigot that will only be remembered in the most negative light in our history texts.

If this irritates you as much as it does me you can join me and millions of other Americans in contacting the Judge directly. http://bit.ly/40JVQp

I am appalled that this can even happen. What an excellent example of how the great state of Louisiana treats people.
