The latest report from Quito yesterday Apple’s authorized reseller “Mundo Mac” translates into Mac World had $10,000 worth of stolen merchandise. The burglars forced their way through the main entrance of the store and stole computers and accessories, according to report.

BRIC in 2050

In 2003, Goldman Sachs introduced what they perceive as the new wave of economic powerhouses.  Brazil, Russia, India and China are listed as the four countries that will become the economic juggernauts by the year 2050. Out of the four countries selected by Goldman Sachs, China is performing the best; they have the largest increase in growth and the highest GDP but the least amount of democracy.  Brazil, Russia and India pose the biggest questions and have the most work to do to prove Goldman Sachs correct.

The United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) predicted economic recovery for the region this upcoming year. The report released earlier this week, predicts 4.1 percent overall growth for Latin America before most developed countries begin recovering from the devastating global crisis.

The Rio Wall

The smell of urine perforates throughout the town of unstable wooden shacks.  Garbage clutters the corridors; which are prime locations for any drug dealer or thief.  Wild dogs roam the streets eating whatever scraps they can find and leaving behind any remains.  The tourists who flock to this city are warned repeatedly to not venture into these ramshackled areas and to make sure to not stop their vehicles at night, for fear of theft.  No, this is not a description of LA in a new John Carpenter film, this is Rio de Janeiro.

Venezuela’s government seizes banks and nationalizes Confederado and Bolivar

Venezuela’s government seizes banks and nationalizes Confederado and Bolivar

President Hugo Chavez nationalized two banks this week do to banking irregularities and mishandling of bank liquidations.  This was in part due to a series of law infractions committed withing the banks, which forced the Venezuelan government to intervene in the affair closed doors.

Chavez mentioned to government and finance officials once the both institutions had been rehabilitated they would become part of the public finance system, according to a news report.
