BRIC in 2050

In 2003, Goldman Sachs introduced what they perceive as the new wave of economic powerhouses.  Brazil, Russia, India and China are listed as the four countries that will become the economic juggernauts by the year 2050. Out of the four countries selected by Goldman Sachs, China is performing the best; they have the largest increase in growth and the highest GDP but the least amount of democracy.  Brazil, Russia and India pose the biggest questions and have the most work to do to prove Goldman Sachs correct.

Finland has become the first country in the world to declare that high speed internet access is a legal right. Finnish telecommunications companies will be required to provide the 5.2 million people of Finland with internet access at a speed of one megabit per second.

Many of you have heard of the horrible violence that has recently erupted all over Kyrgyzstan. Overall, hundreds of people have been murdered and many more are homeless and living in refugee camps in Uzbekistan.  Atrocities have been committed by both sides and an appeal to Russia for peace keeping forces was denied.

When the European Economic Community (EEC) was formed in 1957, few would have expected the Union to develop into an economic powerhouse capable of challenging American economic dominance.  Since the end of World War Two the United States has dominated the international system in terms of military, economy and culture.  The dominance of the U.S. has rarely been threatened and is maintained to this day, although a new threat has emerged.  Already compiling a GDP of $13.62 trillion (PPP), the European Union is in the best position to challenge the economic dominance of the United States.  But, the many factors working against the E.U. will ultimately lead to the continuation of American economic dominance.
