NEW YORK – Pepsico Inc. is raising prices on its popular Tropicana orange juice because of the deep freeze that hurt much of Florida’s citrus crop.
The company said Wednesday it is shrinking its most popular size by about 8 percent — while maintaining its price — and raising the price on another size starting in May.

It has been about a week since my last posting, thank you all for you patience. There has been quite a lot going on in the world and in politics. Of course there is the earthquake in Chile that we are all paying close attention too. We also have the Health care bill resurgence that has taken place over the past couple of weeks.

This news just came across the wire not more then 30 minutes ago. It is official, Ron Paul has won a straw poll that was conducted by the notorious CPAC. You can see one of the speaker’s remarks here. Although this remark is one of less-professional of the bunch. But, calling your president a cocaine abuser seems to be popular.

Now, we have all experienced cases where we thought our privacy was violated. It could have been that someone was easing in on a conversation or someone was digging through your belongings, but most of us have had an experience like this. Whether we know it or not. With the advent of the computer and internet age, we are experiencing a whole new type of spy games.

What a great way to start the day. I wake-up and read that China has sold $34.2 billion worth of US treasury bonds. This means that Japan is once again the largest holder of US debt! It is way better to have our debt in the hands of a trusted ally rather then a power-hungry adversary. That is just international relations 101.

US politics has a history of movements gaining rapid momentum and then fading away. Whether it is the Reform party victories in MN with Jesse Ventura, the law and order Republicans from the Nixon Era or the hippie movement that counter-revolted against the Nixon zealots. In the end all of these movements withered and devolved (or evolved depending on who is talking) into various other groups.

Sen. Franken has faced a daunting challenge in his first year as a US Senator. He barely won a highly contested and much publicized election with Norm Coleman and is part of a party/movement that is losing momentum rather quickly. Franken has also had to overcome a number of other obstacles. Many people (Republicans) have argued that Franken is unfit to be a Senator because of his previous employment in Hollywood and on Air America as a Radio commentator.

China has hit back at the US a day after President Barack Obama promised to take a tougher line with Beijing over currency and trade.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu insisted the value of the Chinese yuan was not the main reason for China’s trade surplus with the US.

After I wake-up, make the coffee and get to work the morning usually starts out with me sitting down at the computer and looking at the news. Recently, for the past year or so, this routine has also included logging into Facebook. This is a great way for me to stay in touch with old friends and make new ones too! Not only that but it allows us at Politablog to stay connected to those who are interested.

It is obvious to many people that our nation is undergoing a change and we are trying to do so at a time of unparalleled debt. This can be a tricky thing to do. How can one manage the budget, fight multiple wars and have socially progressive programs? This seems like a recipe for disaster, bankruptcy and possibly far worse.

The big speech was a few nights ago and Obama did a great job. He certainly brought a different tone with him as he delivered a stirring, informal and commanding address. Obama needed to make some points about his predecessor (Bush), about the direction of our country and about the opposition he is facing from the Republicans.
